PARCOURS WITH JOANNA PIOTROWSKA
Joanna Piotrowska, „Dreams are the facts from which we must proceed”, 2023
At Parcours, a project by Joanna Piotrowska titled ‘Dreams Are The Facts From Which We Must Proceed’ (2023) will be presented in cooperation with Thomas Zander, Madragoa, and Phillida Reid. Commissioned and produced by Urbane Künste Ruhr, curated by Britta Peters.
„Titled «Dreams Are The Facts From Which We Must Proceed», after a quote by psychiatrist and psychoanalyst C. G. Jung, Piotrowska considers the material potential of the symbolism of dreams. The work transcends the usual promise of fashion and consumer goods advertising, offering a view into an alternate reality taking over the shop. The location of the work, a department store window, and the monstruous scale of the hands in relation to the trees and rock, confronts our conflicting desires for connection with nature and our hunger for material consumption. By enlarging her black-and-white photographs and animating them with abrupt movements, Piotrowska brings intimate moments—only in this case between humans and nature—from the private sphere to the public display designed to court our attention.”
