For Art Basel 2021, Galeria Dawid Radziszewski will present works by Louisa Gagliardi and Joanna Piotrowska.

This year, due to the pandemic, Art Basel has introduced several innovations, including joint booths. Galeria Dawid Radziszewski will be participating in the Galleries sector for the first time, and share the presentation with Madragoa gallery from Lisbon who also represents Piotrowska. It will reflect on moments of intimacy and loneliness, everyday objects and rituals, and domestic(ated) environments.

The zoom-in into a private universe is offered by paintings by Gagliardi (b. 1989, Sion, Switzerland). They are made in Photoshop and printed on banner-like PVC panels, on which the artist intervenes by hand, adding accents of gel medium. Gagliardi portrays subjects who are passive to their surroundings, caught in moments of loneliness within social situations and dreamlike places, familiar yet otherworldly and difficult to grasp.

A composition of black and white gelatin silver hand prints comes from the Enclosure series by Piotrowska (b. 1985, Warsaw, Poland), represented by both galleries. They document empty, man-made zoo structures built for the express purpose of containment and the domination of animals. Piotrowska photographed these vacated spaces, creating images that are haunting in their emptiness.
